The Challenge: White in everyday life
What appears effortless in laboratory testing or advertising is far more demanding in practice. White textiles are expected to remain white – even after many wash cycles, at low temperatures, and in gentle programs. In particular, oily and greasy stains from food or personal care products are difficult to remove under these conditions.
At the same time, the risk of greying increases with every wash cycle when dissolved soil re‑deposits onto the fabric. Over time, white textiles lose brilliance, appear prematurely aged, and no longer meet the expected quality perception.
The Answer: An integrated formulation concept for white
Maintaining whiteness today requires more than conventional cleaning. Modern washing habits – short cycles, low temperatures, and complex fabric blends call for an integrated formulation approach that combines four complementary applications.
Removing stains before they settle – targeted cleaning for synthetic fibers
Synthetic and synthetic‑blend fibers dominate many modern textiles. On these materials, oily and greasy stains adhere particularly strongly and are difficult to remove at low temperatures.
Effective formulations therefore need to go beyond immediate soil removal. Preventing re‑deposition is essential to keep fiber surfaces clean and bright over time.
Soil release polymers such as WeylClean® PP support this effect by reducing soil adhesion, facilitating removal in subsequent wash cycles, and binding dissolved soil in the wash water. This creates a clean foundation for long‑lasting whiteness.
Bleaching stains – powerful yet fiber‑friendly
In addition to greasy based stains, the bleaching of oxidizable stains is critical for the visual quality of white textiles. Residues from coffee, tea, wine or fruit pigments quickly dull the appearance of white fabrics.
Modern detergents therefore need to deliver reliable bleaching performance already at reduced temperatures. Peractive® TAED, in combination with peroxygen compounds, enables the formation of peracetic acid and ensures effective removal of bleachable stains in the range of 40–60 °C (104–140 °F).
The peracetic acid formed during hydrolysis also contributes to a high hygiene standard – an increasingly important aspect in energy‑saving and low‑temperature washing processes.
Removing stains at 15 °C (59 °F) – maximum performance in cold wash cycles
But how can high washing performance be ensured at even lower temperatures? Wash cycles at 20 or 30 °C (68–86 °F) have long been established to save energy, but expectations for cleaning performance remain high – especially for white textiles, where even minor residues are immediately visible.
WeylClean® CC was specifically developed for reliable stain removal at low temperatures starting from 15 °C (59 °F). In combination with TAED, this product enables effective bleaching performance even at low wash temperatures. As a performance booster, WeylClean® CC delivers efficient cleaning of oxidizable stains and thus bridges the gap between sustainability goals and cleaning performance. White remains visibly clean even in cold wash cycles.

Even perfectly cleaned and bleached textiles can lose brilliance over time. This is why optical brightening plays a crucial complementary role.
Optical brighteners convert UV light into visible blue light, enhancing the perception of brightness. Tinopal® CBS delivers a clear, fresh white tone on cellulose and blended fabrics – independent of temperature and even in short wash cycles. The brighteners are stable in chlorine‑ and oxygen‑based bleaching systems and retain their performance during outdoor drying.
